In late June 2026, even Northern Europe lived through a real-world climate stress test: Germany posted a new national all-time high of 41.5°C, while Denmark recorded its hottest day since 1874. Close to 200 million Europeans were exposed to temperatures above 35°C in a single day. The conclusion is unambiguous: real-world trajectories are already running ahead of the worst-case scenarios in the IPCC's AR6 Synthesis Report, and everything planned to date assumes a climate that simply no longer exists.

What's the point of a triple-A CDP score when a heat wave reveals you've adapted neither your sites, nor your supply chains, nor how you serve your customers? And what's the point of claiming so called "decarbonized" energy when nuclear reactors across France and Switzerland have had to shut down for lack of sufficiently cool river water to run their cooling systems, with gas plants picking up the slack at night? The problem doesn't stop at generation: as heat increasingly strains power transformers across the grid, the same infrastructure now has to carry the shift to renewables and power digital systems that an ever-larger share of payments, healthcare, and supply chains already depend on entirely. None of this is a one-off: it's a pattern set to repeat, at greater amplitude, for years to come. And access to water as a shared common good will become an increasingly critical issue in the years ahead.
