The apparel industry faces extensive social, environmental, and human rights challenges. While some companies have made commitments to address these issues, there is room for further progress.
The challenge
Ksapa partnered with an American apparel company known for its strong human rights stance and iconic brands the like Vans, The North Face or Timberland among others. The goal was to innovate the company’s human rights risk assessment across its entire value chain – from raw material sourcing to customer use.
OUR APPROACH
Ksapa’s assessment evaluated the company’s risk management framework against over 150 human rights risks, based on international conventions. This comprehensive analysis considered not only social, but also environmental and societal rights.
The assessment involved:
- Qualifying “gross risks” without mitigation
- Evaluating “net risks” accounting for the company’s controls
- Reviewing documentation and interviewing global personnel
This enabled prioritizing key human rights issues and understanding the company’s response capabilities.
RESULTS & NEXT STEPS
The risk prioritization highlighted the company’s critical focus areas. Ksapa provided strategic and operational recommendations to:
- Mitigate key risks
- Innovate positive-impact solutions
- Align with evolving regulations and stakeholder expectations
As a leader in responsible apparel, the company can build on this assessment to further strengthen its human rights approach and maintain its industry position.
