Smallholder farmers in developing countries supply a large bulk of some of the most important commodities worldwide, while being increasingly exposed to environmental and social impacts of climate change. Although solutions are being tested, rural communities living in remote areas seldom have access to such initiatives. 93% of people without mobile connectivity live in Global South countries, and less than 25% of the population in India owns a smartphone.

In addition, programs might not be relevant to farmers’ challenges, as little is known about them. Academics and companies alike generally agree on the lack of sound smallholder data to investigate local supply chain improvement, making it difficult to cater to their needs. Therefore, it is critical to align communication and data collection tools with rural realities, taking into account existing infrastructure, connectivity, and literacy levels to drive inclusion and impact.

Moderated by Raphaël Hara, Managing Director, Ksapa, this webinar will discuss how low-tech digital solutions can be leveraged to promote inclusion, and engage and empower rural communities in the agricultural transition.

We are pleased to count on contributions from:
🔸 Emily Sylvia, Manager, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL)
