For the past 10 years, companies have been exploring and applying the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Echoing multiple national regulatory initiatives in California, France, UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Japan notably, the European Commission announced it would implement a directive on mandatory human rights due diligence by 2021.
